The House of Visual Arts

Upstairs Floor Plan of the Art House

An Artful Community Building

The House of Visual Arts is set in downtown Victoria, BC within a bustling commercial area and in proximity to gal- leries and other arts related buildings. It was inspired by my experience working at the local art gallery in Woodstock, Ontario. I was responsible for supervising the Family Drop- In Program, where parents, grandparents, babysitters and others could bring their children and participate in daily crafts and activities. This program was free for everyone and people could come and go as they please.

The House of Visual Arts serves a similar purpose. The main level is an arts classroom where the residents can host classes for people of all ages. It is accessible for those walking in from the street and has plenty of bicycle parking at the front of the building. There is a separate entrance for the residents who live on the floor above the classroom. It is a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment, designed ideally for a younger couple.
